Julio Larraz , born in 1944 in Havana (Cuba), is considered one of the most versatile artists in the international context. His paintings, with whom he has captured the attention of critics in the early ’70s after a busy work as an illustrator and designer, describing a world full of sensations and atmospheres . Narrative without ever being literary, Larraz draws from the reality, but transformed into symbolic images do not always immediately decipherability, despite the pleasure of the figure makes it, at the same time, an artist of absolute pleasure for the audience.
Julio Larraz likes to take risks and rarely repeats the same themes and subjects, at the same time, however, seems to go in cycles in which visual and conceptual covers topics dear to him, ranging from allegory of power to feminine beauty, eroticism by a languid and soothing to the movie quote , from politics to humor, from the portrait to the domain of the sea, the dominant reason for him in an archipelago of paintings based on a thousand islands discussing travel and returns, farewells and findings. In short, an artist with a romantic, where the autobiographical element is encountered with the ambition to speak a language universal and comprehensive.
He currently lives in Miami, Florida. And ‘ represented in Europe by the Contini Gallery. Among his recent exhibitions we report the retrospective of 2012 at the Monument to Vittorio Emanuele in Rome.
The exhibition is organized and curated by the Fondazione Roma – Mediterranean and organized by Civita Sicily in collaboration with the Contini Gallery in Venice and Cortina d’ Ampezzo.
